Immaculata University is offering new minors in digital forensics, emergency management and applied politics and policy for the fall semester. These interdisciplinary minors can build upon the academic foundations of undergraduate disciplines in criminology, emergency planning and management, nursing, public administration, information systems and business among others.

“One of Immaculata’s main goals is to prepare students for stable, in-demand careers. By adding these three new interdisciplinary minors in emergency management, politics and policy and digital forensics, our graduates will be prepared to enter a number of different professions,” said Immaculata President Barbara Lettiere ’72.

The minor in emergency management complements Immaculata’s Bachelor of Science in Emergency Planning and Management. Immaculata is one of only a few colleges to offer a bachelor’s degree in emergency management and is recognized by FEMA.

Students interested in the minor can earn FEMA training certificates that will enhance their resumes. Courses for the minor, as well as the bachelor’s program, are offered online in an accelerated format. Topics focus on the principles of and systems used in emergency management, evaluating risks and threats, considering the human dimensions of disasters and leading in a crisis.

The emerging field of digital forensics involves analysis of evidence that exists in digital form, such as hard drives, emails and network activity. This minor, available online, face to face, or hybrid, can be added to several bachelor programs including criminology, sociology, cybersecurity, computer science and political science.

Courses focus on digital investigations with identification, preservation, examination, analysis and reporting. Successful completion of the minor prepares students for the AccessData Certified Examiner (ACE) certification exam in digital forensics that can enhance job prospects.

Public policy touches on nearly all professional and academic arenas. Graduates with a minor in applied politics and policy have an advantage when pursuing employment in the public sector, government relations, advocacy and lobbying fields. There is a significant demand for administrators, government employees and related professions.

Students majoring in communication, sociology, criminology, public administration, public health, emergency planning and management and other programs can add the Applied Politics and Policy minor to broaden their career prospects. Course topics include cybersecurity, communications, lobbying, environmental policy and foreign relations. Classes are offered online, face to face, or hybrid delivery formats. Applied Politics and Policy can also be taken as certificate program.
