Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Comes to Norristown to Inspire Young Children to Read

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is joining forces with the Literary Council of Norristown to inspire a passion for reading among young children and their families in Norristown.

The Imagination Library will provide free, age-appropriate, high-quality books to the Norristown families who participate.

“We are delighted to introduce Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Norristown. This program aligns with our mission to promote literacy in our community. By placing books directly into the hands of young readers and their families, we are nurturing a lifelong love for reading and igniting their imagination,” said Eileen Hallstrom, Executive Director of the Literary Council of Norristown.

All Norristown families with children aged from birth to five years old can register their children for the Imagination Library. The program will serve children and families in zip codes 19401, 19403, 19405, and 19406.

Once enrolled, children will receive a free book by mail each month. The books will be selected based on the child’s developmental needs as they progress from birth to five years of age.

Imagination Library books are inclusive and promote positive and uplifting themes.

Dolly Parton created the Imagination Library in 1995, initially just providing books for children within her home county in Tennessee. She was inspired by her father’s struggle with illiteracy.

Today, her program operates in five countries and distributes over two million free books monthly to children worldwide.

“The Literacy Council of Norristown takes great pride in being the first local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, said Cliff Hirst, Literacy Council of Norristown Board President.

“The program’s local costs will be initially covered by a generous grant from the Justamere Foundation, for which we are immensely grateful. Going forward, we hope to expand the Imagination Library into additional communities in Montgomery County.”
