Blue-Bell-based Abramson Senior Care Is Developing New Way to Serve Seniors
Abramson Senior Care, based in Blue Bell, is reinventing itself again after selling its nursing home and other assets, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The non-for-profit sold its home care and hospice businesses this past spring and is trying to develop a new model for caring for seniors.
The new model is designed to help poor and lower-income seniors living at home navigate health care services so they can remain independent.
The idea is that care managers and nurse practitioners will help seniors and their families assess whether it is safe for them to live at home and to come up with a plan for care options and for access to resources.
Prior to this past spring, Abramson had already closed its other nursing home, the Birnhak Transitional Care Center at Lankenau Medical Center, last October.
“it’s okay as a nonprofit to lose a little bit of money, if you’re also fundraising and serving your mission but we were losing more than we were comfortable with,” said Robin Brandies, who became Abramson’s executive director in April.
The organization’s new model of care will be supported by a $30 million endowment.
“We’re really excited. We’re debt free, and we know we’re providing a service that others aren’t,” Brandies said.
