A new hospital in Washington, D.C. which will be run by King of Prussia-based Universal Health Services is nearing completion, writes Nick Thomas for the Becker’s Hospital Review.

The $434.4 million hospital project recently held a topping out ceremony and is scheduled to open in 2025. The 136-bed Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health facility broke ground in February 2022.

The complex will include a trauma center, emergency departments, physician offices, and many other services. It will also be integrated with a pair of new urgent care centers.

“With today’s topping out, we are even closer to fulfilling a decades-long vision – a promise to bring a new high quality hospital and health system east of the river,” said D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.

The facility can also be further expanded to accommodate 184 beds in total. This will provide residents in the area with greater healthcare access.

“Collectively, we have made substantial commitments to expanding economic opportunity on the east end of the city and collaborating with community partners to enhance health access, equity, and outcomes,” said Kim Russo, vice president of Universal Health Services.
