Households in Montgomery County have received over $100 million in rental and utility assistance funding over the last two years, according to county officials, writes Rachel Ravina for The Mercury.

The areas most served include East Norriton Township, Elkins Park, King of Prussia, Lansdale, and Pottstown. As of April 1, applications were no longer accepted. As of June 1, $100,048,848 had already been dispensed.

“These funds were crucial to stabilizing housing for people affected by COVID-19 and averting a higher wave of evictions during the pandemic,” said Montgomery County Office of Housing and Community Development Administrator Kayleigh Silver.

The majority of the distributed funds were made available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security and American Rescue Plan acts. The funds are meant to help households making under 30 percent of Montgomery County’s area median income of $99,361.

“I am extremely grateful for the tremendous efforts of our county staff and to the many community-based organizations that helped get this money to where it was needed, keeping people in their homes,” said Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairman Ken Lawrence Jr.

Assistance will be provided until the funds run out, said a county spokesperson.
