Abington Senior High School graduate Lori A. Smyth, a former radio broadcast promotions director and co-founder of Show Your Soft Side, an anti-animal-abuse organization, passed away at 53, writes Frederick N. Rasmussen for The Baltimore Sun.

“Everything about Lori was big,” said Sande Riesett, co-founder and president of Show Your Soft Side.”

Born in Philadelphia, Smyth was raised in Abington Township. She joined Millersville University after graduating from Abington Senior High, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications.

She started her career in broadcast promotion at WARM-AM in Lancaster. She moved to Baltimore in 1996, where she worked at 98 Rock and WBAL-AM as promotions director until 2019.

She met her future wife, Malinda Davis, in 1997. They married in 2012.

Smyth, an avid animal lover, was inspired by several incidents of animal abuse to co-launch Show Your Soft Side in 2011. The nonprofit enlisted the support of celebrities who appeared on their posters as part of a public service campaign against cruelty to animals. Their first campaign managed to raise over $200,000.
