Lansdale native and North Penn High School graduate Danny Kirwin, a graduate student at Rider University, has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Relief Pitcher of the Year, writes Kyle Franko for The Trentonian.

In the regular season, Kirwin went 6-1 with a 1.91 ERA and 13 saves, a MAAC best. His 13 saves also rank third nationally and his 62 strikeouts in just 42.1 innings are a team high.

“You just got to be ready at all times,” said Kirwin. “Not just the ninth, but maybe the seventh, eighth, or ninth. My mindset is that I have good pitches. Just make pitches and attack the hitters.”

Kirwin, who has improved in each of his seasons in Lawrenceville, was also named to the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Midseason Watch List as Stopper of the Year.

“He has a closer’s demeanor,” said Rider coach Dr. Barry Davis. “His attitude is he’s coming at you with his best stuff. He wants the ball. All the things a closer has, he has those qualities.”
