Amidst Questions of What a Master Plan Entails, Lower Merion Officials Look to ‘Articulate a Vision’ for Admore

Lower Merion Township officials are articulating a vision for the future of Ardmore in a master plan.

Lower Merion Township is pondering the future of the downtown commercial area of Ardmore and is moving closer to finalizing a master plan, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Media News.

Through an Ardmore Master Plan, township officials are identifying recommendations for economic development, transportation, land use, and placemaking issues.

In doing so, they routinely field questions about what a master plan entails.

“We always say it’s a dynamic, long-term-planning document,” said Jillian Dierks, senior planner with the Lower Merion Building and Planning Department. “It’s really a ‘Where are we, where do we want to be, and how do we get there?’ document.”

The plan will cover the main commercial areas along Lancaster Avenue and Montgomery Avenue and will also include the business areas along Rittenhouse, Cricket, and Greenfield avenues.

“We really walked into this process looking to articulate a vision for the commercial corridor and to reevaluate the community’s priorities around community character, circulation, (and) new development,” said Dierks.
