Salus University in Elkins Park has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Drexel University to explore an affiliation between the two organizations. Ryan Mulligan reported the collaborative plan in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Specific details about what the future partnership would look like were not provided.

The two schools are currently in the due diligence stage. It is expected that an agreement could be finalized sometime in late spring or early summer. Both Salus and Drexel board of trustees are scheduled to meet for its approval in May.

In his email to the Drexel community, Drexel President John Fry described Salus as “… a highly regarded institution that offers a wide range of non-overlapping graduate degree programs in the health sciences.”

Salus was founded in 1919 and currently has an enrollment of around 1,200. It boasts graduate health sciences programs in several areas, including vision, hearing and balance, and speech language pathology.

The university also operates clinical facilities located in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.

An affiliation with Drexel “… would greatly expand our ability to provide the very highest level of health care educational options, access to clinical programs, and major new opportunities for research collaboration,” said Salus University President Michael Mittelman.
