Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) administrators have committed to reinvesting in its Pottstown campus. Moreover, they’re out to ensure that the entire borough benefits from the educational institution it hosts. Philadelphia Business Journal’s Ryan Mulligan profiled the Blue Bell/Pottstown link and the commitment to ensure it stays strong.

MCCC acquired the campus in 1996, 26 years into its operations in Whitpain Township.

Since then, the outpost has grown into a four-building complex, with expansion and renovation plans continuing.

The work has been purposeful, retaining some of the look and feel of Pottstown’s past. A former shoe-polish factory, for example, is now a student wellness center.

A thread of tourism-centric learning has also been interwoven into the campus. For example, the Challenger Learning Center, a space and lunar simulator, opened last summer.

For MCCC president Victoria Bastecki-Perez, the benefits of expanding in Pottstown aids both the college and the community, even given the distance this outpost is from main campus. MCCC has another locale from which to entice students. And the funds it spends supporting them generates neighborhood economic stimulus.

“We are still investing in Pottstown,” Bastecki-Perez said. “We believe in our county and our communities.”

The full story of the multifaceted value of the MCCC Pottstown campus is at the Philadelphia Business Journal.
