Muffins Diner — Born Out of Owner-Operator Aversion to ‘Real Jobs’ — Perks in Bridgeport

By

Muffins — the 1950s-style breakfast/lunch spot in Bridgeport — is doing well for its pair of owner-operators, life-long friends Paul Salamy and Steve Sicilia. Greta Phillips reported their progress for 6abc.

Salamy and Sicilia — friends since attending the same King of Prussia preschool — knew they would unite in a commercial entity.

They were just unsure what it would be.

Their first enterprise was a food truck, which Salamy confessed he only lobbied to buy for the snow-cone machine it held.

“I tricked my dad into letting me borrow some money,” he confessed.

But the business partners used self-taught culinary skills and a brisk schedule of onsite community event appearances to build credibility.

Post college, they faced a professional juncture.

“[We] had to make the decision whether [the food-service industry] was going to be a full time thing. Or are we going to go get real jobs?” Salamy remembered.

They chose the former, opened Muffins, and haven’t looked back.

Its popular menu includes neighborhood staples fashioned from recipes handed down from the original owner. But the young chefs are also flexing their own creative cooking muscles, evidenced by entrées that include Cap’n Crunch French Toast and breakfast cheesesteaks.

More on Muffins is at 6abc.
