PennDOT on 2023 Montgomery County Roadwork: Projects Starting, Finishing, and Ongoing
PennDOT has issued a project update on Montgomery County roadwork; the status report is a mixed-bag of relief for commuters that also contains a timely reminder on traffic safety through work zones.
The slow-down warning is timed for Work Zone Awareness Week, which ends Apr. 21. It’s an annual campaign to highlight to commuters the legal requirement to merge out of construction lanes as soon as safely possible and to slow to at least 20 miles below the posted speed limit.
PSA aside, PennDOT also announced its work on 120 highway projects in the Philadelphia region; the effort’s budgetary impact is $2.19 billion.
First the good news for area drivers.
PennDOT announced completion of:
- Pavement and bridge preservation work on Route 309 from Hatfield northward
- Reconstruction and repaving of Markley Street in Norristown
Advancing toward finish is the widening and improvement of Route 202 from Norristown to Whitpain Township.
The delayed gratification of smoother drives will need to be a steady reminder as pavement and bridge preservation work begins on:
- I-476 (the Blue Route) south out of West Conshohocken toward Delaware County
- I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) from U.S. 1 (City Avenue) in Lower Merion Township toward Philadelphia
The full account of this work is on the PennDOT website.
