IKEA's refreshed Nytillverkad collection.

The decidedly-mod aesthetic of IKEA furniture and products will retreat somewhat for the 80th anniversary of the brand’s 1943 founding. As Michele Debczak reported for Mental Floss, the company instead plans to revive some former designs, positioning them now as retro chic.

The new-old look had its public debut at Milan Furniture Fair, a week-long trade show in Italy that has been around since 1961.

The IKEA throwbacks center on its Nytillverkad line, which encompasses furniture, bedding, and accessories.

Although the form and shape of the products remain now as it was then, details like color palates and material choices have been boldly updated for modern-consumer appeal.

1956’s Lövet flat-pack table has been rebranded as the colorful Lövbacken line. Classics like the Domsten stool and the Smed coat rack have also been revived and refreshed.

To unpack the entire story on IKEA; its anniversary; and the revived, reinvented inventory coming to the Conshohocken location, go to Mental Floss.
