Local Panel Weighs in on Artificial Intelligence’s ChatGPT; Montco Natives Express Unease
Two Montgomery County residents were in a 14-person artificial intelligence (AI) demonstration designed to gauge reactions. Representing machine learning was ChatGPT, whose technological abilities include content creation. Rich Thau and Matt Steffee reported results in smerconish.com.
Organizers asked the chatbot to theorize on a Beatles album created if they had stayed together. Further, they asked for the response in poetic form.
The resulting verse read, in part, “In ’71, the Fab Four were done; But if they’d stayed, and worked as one; What 12 tracks could they have spun? ‘Imagine,’ by John, so bright and bold; A world at peace, and love untold.”
Based on the demo, participant Katina from Audubon admitted that AI could do her entire supply-chain management job — and her team’s.
“As a 50-year-old female, it’s a little scary,” she said. “There’s not a lot of jobs out there once you start hitting that over-50 age range.”
Bridgeport observer Mike, reacted with: “I am a paralegal… . If [AI] can take huge chunks of data and churn out a memo and supporting documents in 30 seconds, why would you spend money on someone when that’s going to take them at least 45 minutes, an hour, or more? That is alarming.”
The full range of reactions, parsed by geography and political leanings, is at smerconish.com.
