Ardmore’s Dan Hilferty, New Chair of Comcast Spectacor, Wants to Keep Sixers in South Philly
Despite the Sixers’ push to build an arena in the heart of Center City, Ardmore’s Daniel Hilferty, the new chairman of Comcast Spectacor, wants to keep the team in South Philadelphia, writes Jeff Gammage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Hilferty’s Comcast Spectacor owns the Flyers and the Wells Fargo Center, where the NBA team is currently an unhappy tenant.
He wants to change this, and is now hoping to unite the owners of both teams so they would both announce they are joining the Eagles, Phillies, and city officials in a huge transformation of the sports complex.
“That’s my hope,” said Hilferty. “When we dream as individuals, really cool things can happen. But when we dream as a group, amazing, game-changing things can happen.”
He said he is prepared to work with the Sixers on business and entertainment opportunities, including a potential sale of part of the Wells Fargo Center to the team.
“We’re open to creative discussions about how we go forward together,” Hilferty said. “Our goal is to bring everybody back in the fold and figure out what we can do together.”
