Wyncote Farms, an Elkins Park Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) entity, got a new manager in Jan. 2023: the appropriately named Nala Bloom. The Glenside Local‘s Ryan Genova profiled her.

The CSA and Wyncote Academy have a relationship that’s closer than the Old York Road half-mile between them.

The school co-operates the plot on which the farm sits and uses its students for deliveries.

In return, the middle- and high-school staff is getting an education in agribusiness and nutrition in return.

Bloom started as a volunteer at the farm and rose to manager. “Last year was the beginning of my journey as a farmer,” she said.

She’s not only in charge of the crops, she oversees several onsite animals and the farm’s beehive.

“I’ve been working with the academy, and we’ve developed an incredible curriculum,” she explained. “The kids are able to tend to the animals and the things we grow, and that’s been one of my dreams: to be able to share farming with others.

“I’m a student in nature who’s growing right along with them,” Bloom concluded.
