Yum-Yum Bakery in Colmar is offering customers the Big Kahuna, a monster-sized doughnut with an Eagles theme. Matt Petrollo got the sweet assignment to report on it for CBS Philadelphia.
Amid racks of green-frosted doughnuts and those filled with green cream is a version that is as massive and potentially intimidating as Fletcher Cox.
The Big Kahuna doughnut, with a diameter that approximates a small child’s swimming floaty, is made with enough batter to bake a dozen of the normal-sized variety.
It weighs four pounds and serves 12 people.
It’s not a new item; on an ordinary Eagles weekend Yum-Yum Bakery sells 10–12 of them.
But as the Birds heeded the call to Fly Eagles, Fly, Yum-Yum turned to Fry Bakery, Fry. Demand leapt to 50–60 per day.
“People say, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s the largest doughnut we’ve ever seen!’” said Yum-Yum manager Jennifer Stengel.
The Big Kahuna costs $21, can be ordered Yum Yum Bakery’s online store, and bears the message “It’s A Philly Thing” in icing script.
The fully baked story behind of Yum-Yum Bakery is at CBS Philadelphia.
_____
Although the Yum-Yum Bakery’s Big Kahuna doughnut is, indeed, big, it’s not quite up to the 30-pounder
created in this video for a body-building police officer to consume.
