Two Montgomery County Businesses Recognized as 2023 Startups to Watch
PHL Inno, an offshoot publication of the Philadelphia Business Journal, has compiled its 2023 list of startups to watch. Two Montgomery County firms caught the eye of Ryan Mulligan, earning their way to recognition.
Despite the 2022 economy and its ongoing unsteadiness, several area entities weathered the ups and downs and even managed to thrive.
In choosing its standout performers, the PHL Inno staff considered:
- Funding raised since 2020
- Recent growth
- Future growth projections
- Fundraising plans
The result yielded a mix of early and growth-stage startups.
WatchBox, headquartered in Bala Cynwyd, made the cut.
Its CEO Danny Govberg plans a global branding strategy for its luxe timepiece brand in 2023. Supporting that goal is the expansion into four new domestic markets and three international ones, bringing the total number of locations to 13.
Funding that stretch is continual use of a 2021 injection of $165 million in growth capital, raised from investors that include Michael Jordan and Michael Strahan.
Conshohocken’s Zero Eyes was also noted as a notable 2023 startup.
Its weapon-detection technology is being sought by purchasers from the U.S. Air Force to SEPTA.
Although no government contracts have yet resulted, the vote of confidence speaks loudly for the technology and its use in the education and business sectors.
