PennDOT 2023 New Year’s Resolution: Further the Route 309 Connector Project
There’s good news and bad news from PennDOT on its multiphase Route 309 Connector project in the northwest corner of Montgomery County. WFMZ 60 News covered the mixed blessing.
The upside is that the work is about to begin its second stretch toward completion.
The downside is that to advance, the project will see the year-long closure of a local roadway.
As of Jan. 3, a section of Township Line Road — from Cowpath Road to Penn Avenue — will be inaccessible for its 2.3-mile length.
Motorists who use that access way regularly are advised to add time to their commutes to navigate the necessary closure.
The overall Route 309 Connector plan to build a five-mile-long drivable link between Montgomery and Bucks counties. It’s intended to enhance mobility and safety between Route 309 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Specific components of the Jan. 2023 phase include:
- A new roadway from Allentown Road to the Hatfield/Souderton Pike intersection
- Reconstruction of Township Line Road from Cowpath Road to Hatfield Souderton Pike
- Adding necessities such as noise walls, traffic signals, and upgraded pedestrian facilities
The entire project — whose $42.4-million cost is being financed by an 80–20 split between federal and state governments — is expected to finish in 2027.
More detail on this next portion of the Route 309 Connector construction is at WFMZ 69 News.
