Montgomery County Community College invites applications for the Student Support Programs Manager position. The Student Support Programs Manager will be responsible for the coordination, management and delivery of the ACT 101, POWER and GEAR UP grant funded programs and will facilitate the growth of the programs and partnerships by working in conjunction with departments and units across campus and in the local community.

This position is contingent upon grant funding. The grant will end on June 30, 2023. 

A perfect candidate for the position would have the ability to carry out the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership and management of the POWER, GU and ACT 101 grants, budget management, student and recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of the program coaches, admin and/or student workers. 

  • Identifying at-risk cohorts and achievement gaps that exist among students in the students of color.
    • This research should result in the development of mentoring programs and other initiatives that increase the retention, persistence, and completion of these students. 

  • Conducing regular assessments of program services.
    • Establishing and reviewing key performance indicators that will guide program planning and development.

  • Ensuring that the student success coaching efforts are well-coordinated with the POWER/ACT 101/GU program initiatives and are in alignment with the strategic plan. 

  • Researching alternative sources of revenue to expand program services. 
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other campus partners, faculty, and administrators, and contracted vendors.
    • Developing and implementing outreach efforts to connect students involved in the programs with faculty, staff and the community.
    • Serving as an advocate and advisor students participating in the grant programs.
    • Serving as grant/college liaison.

Perform other duties as assigned. 

Essential Knowledge and Skills: 

Education/Training/Work Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Affairs Personnel, developmental education, social work, or closely related discipline. 
  • At least two years administrative experience in higher education Student Affairs, and/or mentoring, preferably in a community college setting (including supervision of professional staff and budget responsibility). 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing programs designed to enhance the retention of under-prepared students. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Internet, email, database, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation experience. 
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience. 
  • Grant management experience. 

Specialized Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Experience working with academically disadvantaged, low income, and first generation students. 
  • Experience and/or ability to write and manage grants. 
  • Ability to work creatively and effectively with students, faculty, staff and the community. 
  • Understanding and acceptance of community college philosophy, practices, and population. 
  • Pleasant, courteous personality with a customer service orientation, and an ability to work well with a diverse population of students and visitors. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Leading the Team (administrators with direct reports only) 

Motiving others to do their jobs and providing clarity by communicating and connecting the institutional priorities and specific unit goals and ensuring the advancement of the college’s strategic plan. It entails a commitment to ensuring that people feel empowered and supported to fulfill their responsibilities and continue to grow and develop in a professional capacity.
