On Nov. 5, the Immaculata Symphony will perform their fall concert entitled “Inspired Visions.” The concert begins at 7:30 PM in Alumnae Hall. The Immaculata Symphony is a university-community organization, with a long and outstanding tradition that goes back to the university’s founding in 1920.

The fall concert will begin with Malcom Arnold’s Peterloo Overture, Op. 97 which depicts the Peterloo Massacre of 1819. Next, Ovidiu Marinescu, an outstanding musician from Romania and current professor at West Chester University, will be performing his new Concerto for Two Cellos with Immaculata Symphony’s principal celloist Amy Flynn. Concerto for Two Cellos is inspired by Romanian, Bulgarian, Scandinavian, and Irish folk music. The finale of the concert, Reinhold Glière’s The Red Poppy Suite, Op. 70, features Jacqueline Vilbert, an Immaculata Symphony Concertmaster and violinist.

The concert will be directed by Music Director Joseph Gehring, chair of the Music Department and director of Ensembles at Immaculata University. He was appointed music director of the Immaculata Symphony in 2011. He is also the conductor of the West Chester Band and Chesco Pops Orchestra and is a frequent guest conductor of various honor/festival bands and orchestras throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Also in November, the Immaculata Symphony travels Conwell Egan High School to perform with the school’s choir. This concert will take place on Nov. 12 at 7:30 PM to raise money for Conwell Egan’s Music Department. The music will be directed by Joseph Gehring and the choir will be directed by Mr. Thomas Kuchler.

General admission to the fall concert is $15. Tickets are available for sale on the night of the event and online at immaculatasymphony.org. Tickets to the Conwell Egan concert are $12 and available at conwell-egan.org.
