With the groundbreaking of the Hatboro Gold Star Garden completed, attention is now turning to gathering the support of donors and sponsors for the military tribute.

A Gold Star Garden will soon arise in Hatboro as a means of recognizing not only the military sacrifice of lost servicemen and -women but also the grief of their remaining families. The Pa. State Association of Boroughs reported on the project.

America’s Gold Star Families is a nationwide nonprofit that provides surviving family members of deceased members of the military with honor, hope, and healing as mitigators against grief. It recognizes those taken by any military conflict throughout all branches of the service, encompassing all causes of the loss.

The garden is planned to rise in the borough’s Miller Meadow on S. York Road. A groundbreaking was held there in 2019, and the initial improvements — funded by a Montgomery County Planning Commission Montco 2040 Grant — have been completed.

The remainder of the garden’s installation will be covered solely by donations and sponsorships. The sale of engraved memorial bricks is part of that fundraising effort, and five benches — one for each military branch — are open for donation.

The center of the garden will have a Fallen Soldier memorial statue and the American and Gold Star flags will be flown above the garden with decorative lighting throughout.
