Ill Doots is providing music for the Sept. production of TOWN, a Theatre Horizon, Norristown, reimagining of "Our Town."

Theatre Horizon, Norristown, is blowing the dust off a theatrical chestnut this fall. Its production of TOWN, a new twist on the 1938 Thornton Wilder classic Our Town, is being specifically rethought to look and sound nothing like its forebear.

The first distinguishing aspect is its setting. Its September 15–18 run is being presented outdoors (weather permitting) at the Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy on Markley Street in Norristown.

The second unique approach is the inclusion of music. Although the story has been presented as a traditional book musical before, this version features original hip-hop music by Phila.-based artist collective, Ill Doots.

And last is the distinction that TOWN intends to cast residents from age five and up, even if they have no prior stage experience at all. Some of these positions are paid. Locals who are interested only in providing input into this free-form production are welcome as well.

Public auditions for cast-members and community contributors are as follows:

  • June 14, Norristown Public Library, 6:00–7:30 p.m.
  • June 20, Theatre Horizon, 4:00–7:00 p.m.
  • June 25, Theatre Horizon, 1:00–4:00 p.m.
This CBS story explains the enduring pull of the source material behind Theatre Horizon upcoming production, TOWN.
