Flush with Infrastructure Funding, Airport Bathrooms Get Renovated

By

The infrastructure bill is paying for new and renovated bathrooms at the Philadelphia International Airport, writes Howard Monroe for CBS Philly.

“I’ve always said when you come to the airport you have tons of choices when you’re flying, except two things: TSA security and restrooms,” Philadelphia International Airport interim CEO Keith Brune said.

Renovations actually started 10 years ago. Now the airport has received $24 million from Washington to continue the work.

Any infrastructure work at an airport will always be ongoing, Brune said.

“I’d love to shut down all of my restrooms and rebuild them in a year, but that’s not going to happen,” he said. “Any of the projects we were submitting for had to be shovel ready and this is a project we’re getting ready to bid for now and meet that criteria.”

Every terminal will see bathroom upgrades.

The airport is also adding two new bathrooms, five lactation rooms, four service animal relief areas, 49 gender-neutral bathrooms, and three adult assisted-car bathrooms.

They will all feature touchless faucets and hand dryers.

Renovations are set to be completed in 2026.
