Wawa plans to open its first Nashville location in 2025, writes Julia Masters and Laura Smythe for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Wawa, which already employs more than 35,000 people, is considering up to 40 locations in Nashville, continuing “the most aggressive growth” plan in company history, according to CEO Chris Gheysens.

Wawa has 54 more stores set to open in 2022. It currently has over 950 stores in Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

It’s hoping to have 1,800 locations by 2030, Gheysens said.

“We are excited to expand beyond our current operating area and look forward to serving the community come 2025 and beyond,” John Poplawski, vice president of real estate for Wawa, said in a statement regarding the Nashville expansion.

The convenience store chain, with its origins in Delaware County, has not chosen a Nashville site yet, but is taking suggestions here.

Wawa is also looking at expansion in the Florida Panhandle, Alabama and North Carolina.

As it grows its stores, Wawa is also growing and diversifying its menu. New items include boba tea, loaded fries and pizza. Several beer-selling stores are opening in Pennsylvania.
