To determine the ranking, the study took into account 90 health-influencing factors, including housing, education, jobs, and quality health care access.
The health outcomes category calculates the length of life and quality of life factors, while the health factors category looks at health and unhealthy behaviors.
Montgomery County residents are among the healthiest in Pennsylvania, according to a new study by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute that ranks the healthiest and least healthy counties in the state, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Montgomery County came second in the Keystone State in health factors and fourth in health outcomes, the report’s two major measures.
In health outcomes, Montgomery County has 14 percent of residents who are in poor or fair health, which is under the state’s 18 percent average. The county also has a high life expectancy of 80.5 years, as compared to Pennsylvania’s 78 years.
In health behaviors, 15 percent of the county’s residents are adult smokers, which is under 18 percent in Pennsylvania, and 30 percent are obese, as compared to 33 percent in the state.
Meanwhile, five percent of residents are uninsured, compared to seven percent in Pennsylvania.
