Plymouth Whitemarsh Girls’ Hoops Praised as ‘Greatest Team in PA’s Girls Basketball History’ After Perfect Season
Plymouth Whitemarsh High School girls’ basketball team won its first state title in program history in a perfect season that ended in 34 wins and no losses, writes Dave Uram for the KYW Newsradio.
“They will forever be remembered as the greatest team in Pennsylvania girls’ basketball history,” said Dan Dougherty, the team’s head coach.
Not only did the team secure all wins in the 2021-22 season, but only three of their triumphs were by single digits.
“It’s the depth on the team that leads to that,” said Dougherty. “People would ask when you look through the state tournament, ‘Were the teams that [good?]’ Yes, the teams were really that good. We just really played that well.”
For the players, achieving this perfection was not easy but an ultimately very satisfying task.
“It’s unreal,” said senior Jordyn Thomas, who is heading to Jefferson University. “But if you were to be at our practices or our film sessions, I think you would realize that it could be accomplished by us, and the amount of work that we’ve put in, I think that season reflects it.”
