One of Dr. Bruce Meyer’s main priorities is seamlessly integrating the Einstein Healthcare Network into Jefferson Health, along with providing top care to the area’s residents, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal during a recent virtual PBJ event.

Montgomery County and Philadelphia-area health systems have had their share of challenges these past few years, with COVID-19, building needs, technological advancements, and merging health systems to develop and serve with the best possible care.

Meyer, who is President of Jefferson Health and the Senior Executive Vice president of Thomas Jefferson University compares providing health care during a pandemic to running a marathon…and then running another one immediately after.

“The stress on frontline caregivers and all the people who support frontline caregivers has been enormous, both on the personal and the professional side,” he notes.

Telehealth was a growing way of delivering healthcare, he says, as they did over 6000 virtual visits a day in April 2000, and now the number has slowed to about 2500 virtual visits a day.

Jefferson Health is integrating the Einstein Healthcare Network into theirs, where Einstein has several local hospitals with the flagship hospital, Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, along with Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in East Norriton which moved over Montgomery Hospital from the heart of Norristown after it closed, Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, and Moss Rehab in Elkins Park, along with almost 15 outpatient centers.

“We’re six months into the two-year process,” Dr. Bruce Meyer says. “Our colleagues at Einstein have really been part of the Jefferson ecosystem in the sense of educating our students for decades at this point, so it’s not like we don’t know each other.”
