Thanks to a network of dedicated local nonprofits, Brinton Run Preserve is set to open this spring in Chadds Ford, writes Melissa Jacobs for The Hunt Magazine

With 72 acres of fields, the land is protected under a conservation easement.

Currently, the rolling fields are home to 92 plant species and a large number of pollinators. There is also a large pond and tributary of Brandywine Creek that leads to other protected areas.

It was this that convinced North American Land Trust (NALT) to lead a movement to buy the space, negotiate the easement, and raise the required $3.85 million to pay for it.

The Chadds Ford-based nonprofit has protected more than 135,000 acres across the U.S. since it was formed in 1992, but the latest acquisition marks a milestone for NALT.

“This is the first property we wanted to acquire and open for public use,” said Steven Carter, NALT’s president. “The Brandywine Valley is our home, and this space is three miles from our current headquarters.”
