While population growth in the U.S. is generally slowing from declining birth rates, an aging population, and fewer immigrants, some locations are bucking the trend. Some of the largest cities, with populations of approximately around 1 million, have seen a decrease in their population and slower population growth. A new report from Stacker highlights the fastest-growing “cities” in Pennsylvania, and Chester County is home to one of them.

The list resulted from an analysis of statewide data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Cities were ranked based on the highest population growth from 2010 to 2020.

Phoenixville ranked 13th in the state with a population increase of 2,353 people. This puts the borough at No. 1,905 nationwide.

Phoenixville had a population of 18,602 in 2020. This means that the population grew by 14.5 percent, which puts it in No. 300 in Pennsylvania and No. 7,133 among all cities nationwide.

Currently, Phoenixville is the 36th-largest “city” in Pennsylvania and 2,419th-largest in the nation.

With the influx of breweries, restaurants, apartment complexes, and new living communities, Phoenixville is ready to break through an era of shopping, dining, and living renaissance.
