Jan. 6th, 2022 COVID-19 Update: Over 1800 Cases Reported in Montco in Last 48 Hours

Montgomery County reported 1873 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 2 days (January 4-5, 2022) bringing the total number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases to 95,040 countywide since March 7, 2020, due to the new Omicron variant.

There are currently 513 people hospitalized in Montgomery County hospitals due to severe COVID-19 symptoms. Of those COVID-19 patients, 32 people are on ventilators

Valerie A. Arkoosh, MD, MPH, Chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners, announced she has tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

Commissioner Arkoosh has said,“ We are seeing an increase in cases here in Montgomery County and cases are surging across the Commonwealth and country. Frontline workers and hospital systems are feeling the impact. We need to continue to be vigilant and do everything we can to protect ourselves and others, which means continuing to mask up and getting vaccinated and boosted.”

There were 4 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Montgomery County during January 4-5, 2022.

The current total deaths are numbered at 1,461 in Montgomery County, since March 7, 2020.

Pennsylvania COVID-19 Update of New Positive Cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported analyzed the following vaccine data within its 66-county vaccine jurisdiction; Philadelphia is a separate vaccine jurisdiction:

  • 269,488 vaccine doses were administered in the past week, including:
    • 131,793 booster doses administered in the past week.
    • 12,270 pediatric doses administered in the past week.
  • 3.8% decrease in vaccines administered from previous week, largely attributed to the New Year holiday.

Here is a statewide summary of COVID-19 trends over the past 7 days Monday, Dec. 27 –Sunday, Jan. 2:

  • The daily average number of cases was 18,344.  
  • The number of people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 on Monday, Jan. 3 was 22.6 percent higher than on Dec. 27. The percent of available adult and pediatric ICU beds in the state fell to 16% and 11%, respectively.
  • Approximately 28% of all staffed adult ICU beds are COVID-19 patients.  
  • 32% of all ventilators statewide are in use.

The Department of Health continues to provide the public with extensive and frequently updated data on both the COVID-19 dashboard and the vaccine dashboard.

The department continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance to wear a mask where required by law, rules, and regulations, including healthcare, local business, and workplace guidance.

For the protection of themselves and others, individuals who have not yet been vaccinated or are partially vaccinated, are still encouraged to wear a mask when in public.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbow, not your hands.
  • Clean surfaces frequently.
  • Stay home to avoid spreading COVID-19, especially if you are unwell.
  • If you must go out, please wear a mask when in a business or where it is difficult to maintain proper social distancing.
