In a fast-developing area, the iconic Greystone Hall in West Chester stands as a monument to a bygone era, writes Roger Morris for The Hunt magazine.

Completed in 1907, the residence was commissioned by Philip M. Sharples, a West Chester manufacturer. It was designed as a 15th-century manor house with a modern inside. For a century, it served as a home for two prominent families.

Today, Greystone Hall is a grand event space that has hosted numerous weddings, lavish dinners, and corporate events, as well as a mystery theater presentation that encompasses the manor’s rooms.

“We normally host about 20 to 30 events a year,” said Velda Moog, the property’s managing partner.

Greystone is entered through a hallway that runs along the main wing. This is the public part of the house that features a game room and function rooms to the left and the library, with the reception room, central hallway, music room, and dining room to the right.

Outside is a large patio and spacious lawn with a pergola visible in the distance.

“Pergolas were the signature of Charles Barton Keen, the architect of Greystone,” said Moog. “This one has 48 columns.”
