Married couple Amy and Jon Ostroff from Wayne co-founded a nonprofit organization called Love to Langa, which works to support children’s education within impoverished communities in South Africa, writes J.F. Pirro of Main Line Today.

First founded in 2010, Love to Langa’s latest project is to construct a Montessori academy for 200 children in Langa.

However, due to outbreaks of violence, political unrest, and COVID-19 complications within various areas of South Africa, the groundbreaking – originally planned for this past July – was delayed.

Despite the delay, the school’s grand opening is still planned for January 2023.

Off-site classes have already begun at a building provided by the Red Cross.

For the Ostroffs, who don’t have any children of their own, Love to Langa has become like their child.

Both Amy and Jon have a passion for helping others, but when they first started their work in South Africa they weren’t immediately trusted.

“As Americans, it’s a totally different culture,” Amy said. The couple’s openness and desire to share first led to theft and requests for them to leave. But nowadays, the Ostroffs have forged deep bonds within the communities they are a part of.

The Montessori academy is slated to be Love to Langa’s most significant project to date for the organization. The school will help provide the children of Langa with something truly valuable: an education.
