Food insecurity continues to increase in these pandemic times, and the folks at Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard (Mattie Dixon) are here to help. Its annual campaign, with the support of Ambler Savings Bank’s Matching Grant of $5,000, continues to raise funds to fight hunger in our community.

Over 375 households are current recipients of bi-monthly groceries from Mattie Dixon.

The cupboard not only provides food, but it also has resources for clothing, household items, employment services, and emergency financial assistance.

Making the holidays brighter, the outreach is currently distributing holiday meal boxes and gift cards to help families purchase gifts for children and grandchildren.

But the funds raised will also help Mattie Dixon continue its mission well beyond the holidays. The long-term goal is to become a client choice food pantry, which operates more like a small grocery store, allowing clients to hand-select their own items. That kind of autonomy builds dignity and reduces waste.

“As the pandemic drags on, food insecurity continues to rise, and we want our community to know we are here to help,” said Cindy Wedholm, Executive Director, Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard.

“It’s thanks to donations from our annual appeal and community businesses like Ambler Savings Bank who step up, that we are able to continue serving,” she continued.

“Organizations that provide food assistance are vitally important to our community. Cindy and her team are doing amazing work that we are proud to support,” commented Roger Zacharia, President and CEO, Ambler Savings Bank.

The Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard offers food, clothing, employment assistance (including job help and resume building), medical referrals, housing referrals, and emergency financial assistance.

Ambler Savings Bank is a mutually organized community bank headquartered in Ambler, Pennsylvania, with locations in Fairview Village, Limerick, and Bally, as well as several continuing care retirement facilities.
