CTI Foods Plans to Close King of Prussia Plant, Offer Workers Hope With Possibility of New Operator
CTI Foods has warned state officials that it is planning to close its meat processing plant in King of Prussia, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
However, the company said it is currently in talks with a potential partner who would continue operating the facility and keep the 89 workers employed. If there is no deal, the plant employees will lose their jobs once the plant closes on December 31.
Idaho-based CTI Foods acquired the plant in 2012.
The company operates five other facilities across the United States, in Texas, Idaho, California, Iowa, and Kentucky.
These national plants will not be affected by the King of Prussia closing and CTI Foods says it will not impact production targets or the delivery of goods.
The privately held company that specializes in the production of burgers, taco meat, and other proteins for the restaurant industry disclosed the planned layoffs in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act it filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
According to the filing, the closure “is expected to be permanent and all employees at the facility will be impacted.”
But there is still some hope that the workers might stay employed at the plant.
“The company is deep in talks with potential partners to continue operating the facility,” said CTI Foods CEO Mike Buccheri.
