If you have been dreading your workday lately then you have likely pondered whether the position has run its course. Quitting is a big deal, though, so you really need to be sure that’s what you want to do.

If you are seriously wondering whether it is time to look for new work, first weigh how bad things really are. A recent article from CNN shares some of the signs you should watch out for.

1. You Aren’t Advancing

The prospect of a promotion could be what motivates you to solider on through unpleasant work.

But if it’s clear the role you have now is all you will ever be given, it might be time to redirect away from the dead end.

2. You Have No Passion for the Work

Not everyone will love their job, but at the very least you should not loathe it.

If you have gotten to the point of counting the minutes until you are done, and are cutting corners, it probably isn’t the place for you.

3. You Keep Clashing with Your Boss

Disagreements are expected, but at the end of the day, you should at least respect your boss.

However, if they feel more like an obstacle towards your success, their leadership style likely isn’t helping you.

4. You Feel Envious About Other Jobs

You don’t really notice job openings unless you want a new job.

So if you are seeing postings or hearing about people being hired and ruminating on how good that sounds, it’s probably what you want for yourself because you no longer like where you are.

5. You Hate the Culture

Even if you enjoy the actual work, you might dislike the way it is conducted.

If you like focusing on your own tasks, starting the day with progress update meetings will quickly aggravate you. Ask yourself if your work style blends well with this company.

6. You Are Always Unhappy

Everyone has bad days, or periods of stress during a difficult project. But if this has been going on for months now, that’s not normal. Sometimes the paycheck is not worth the emotional toll.

Quitting is a tough decision, and should never be made in the heat of the moment. If you are considering leaving, secure new employment first, and depart gracefully. As tempting as it may be, burning bridges can always come back to haunt you.
