Gopuff, the Philadelphia-based delivery service, is planning to open a brick-and-mortar store in Ardmore where it would both serve walk-in customers and fulfill online orders, writes Christian Hetrick for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The fast-growing startup wants to transform and move into the former Mapes hardware store at 71 Rittenhouse Place.

“Our understanding is that it will be a delivery and retail location, and not just a delivery location like they have at other places,” said Lower Merion Township spokesperson Lori Jennings.

The company has already leased the building and is currently exploring opportunities for the 23,700-square-foot property.

Gopuff was founded in 2013 by a pair of Drexel University students and roommates Yakir Gola and Rafael Ilishayev.

Today, it delivers beer, snacks, and toiletries in over 1,000 cities.

The company has expanded throughout both the United States and Europe and has more than tripled its valuation to $15 billion compared to last year.

The startup has been slowly wading into brick-and-mortar retail and has gained 180 locations recently by acquiring California-based BevMo! and Liquor Barn in Kentucky.

It also has storefronts open in Florida and Texas and is planning to soon open its first San Francisco location.
