The Baldwin School, the all-girls pre-kindergarten through grade 12 Bryn Mawr institution, is following in the footsteps of its higher education counterparts by implementing high-end technology and concentrating on interdisciplinary learning, writes Lisa Dukart for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

In August, the school broke ground on a multimillion-dollar Innovation Center.

The new facility will be a modern collaborative space where students will be able to engage in cutting-edge learning that combines disciplines.

“It’s not about just STEM and engineering, it’s about how we look at problems in the real world and problem-solve together,” said Marisa Porges, Head of School at The Baldwin School. “It has new technology, but also has spaces for presentations and art and our humanities teachers to engage.”

The Innovation Center is expected to open early in 2022.

Taking a lesson from the pandemic, the school is also planning to incorporate more outdoor activities as it moves forward.

“We spent a lot more time outdoors than ever before and we realized it was a great space,” she said. “Our campus is beautiful and having teaching spaces outdoors, but also doing meals outdoors and having more time outside for our students, was a real benefit for their mental health and wellness.”
