The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) led a ceremony recently to dedicate an America 250 Patriot Marker at the Paoli Battlefield in Malvern, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.

“These markers are intended to call to people’s attention the cause for freedom that our patriotic ancestors fought,” said Elizabeth Watkins, State Regent for the Pennsylvania State Society DAR. “We’re being encouraged to place at least one marker in every state across the United States.”

Each DAR member can trace her genealogy to a Revolutionary War-era Patriot. Their mission to place dedication markers is part of the organization’s longstanding effort to prepare for the nation’s semi-quincentennial — its 250th birthday — in 2026.

The group’s members hope that the newly placed marker serves as a steady reminder. It hopes to memorialize the sacrifices of patriots who fought on the battlefield in September 1777. The toll in terms of killed and wounded soldiers made it the ninth-bloodiest battle of the Revolution.

The battle, which was won by the British, is also known as “The Paoli Massacre.” It inspired the “Remember Paoli” battle cry and its other iterations in subsequent attacks.
