Montgomery County is targeting the younger generations with a tongue-in-cheek ad campaign in hopes of increasing vaccination rates among young people and teens, writes Zoë Read for WHYY.

Currently, around 63 percent of county residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

However, only around half of the 16-to-30-year-olds have been vaccinated, which mirrors regional and national trends.

The Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board has partnered with the county to create a series of online and outdoor ads titled “Don’t Procrastinate, Vaccinate” to raise vaccination rates.

The ads poke fun at excuses used to avoid getting a shot, such as being too busy arguing online with strangers or scrolling on TikTok for hours.

Another ad focuses on reminding young people of what they are missing by not getting a vaccine, including dating.

For example, one ad features Cupid using the catchphrase “don’t miss your shot at love” to incentivize the younger generations to get their shot.

Cupid himself will also visit several popular local bars over the next few weeks to spread the word about getting vaccinated while handing out swag such as commemorative drinking glasses.
