William Holloway, AIA, LEED AP, Vice President and Principal of Bernardon, an award-winning firm that provides architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture services, has been nominated to the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Building Sciences by President Joe Biden.

The National Institute of Building Sciences is a non-governmental nonprofit that supports advances in building sciences and technology. Its Board of Directors is comprised of 21 members.

The President of the United States, with the advice and consent of the Senate, appoints six members to represent the public interest. The remaining 15 members are elected from the nation’s building community.

With offices in West Chester, Wilmington, and Philadelphia, Bernardon delivers thoughtful design solutions to a wide range of regional and national clients, including private, corporate, and institutional.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this nomination from President Biden,” said Holloway, who serves as Bernardon’s Director of Delaware Operations. “If confirmed, I look forward to serving on the Board of NIBS, which acts as an interface between government and the private sector and also serves as a resource to those who plan, design, procure, construct, use, operate, maintain, renovate, and retire physical facilities.”

“The depth and breadth of Bernardon’s portfolio of projects, encompassing over a dozen building types, will provide the perfect array of front-line experiences for me to share the needs, challenges, and best practices of architects, landscape architects, and interior designers with NIBS stakeholders, who routinely collaborate to conceive and create new and innovative solutions for the building industry,” he said.

Spanning 39 years of practice, Holloway’s professional accomplishments include leadership of the design effort for significant projects in the public works, institutional, and healthcare markets.

Among his notable projects are:

• the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Train Station in Wilmington
• the restoration of the historic Old State House in Dover, Del.
• renovations to more than 27 facilities for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Currently, Holloway is leading the team that is designing a major addition to the Delaware Division of Public Health Laboratory in Smyrna, Del.

In recognition of his service to the profession, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) named him a Richard Upjohn Fellow at the national level for his service on the Institute’s board. In honor of his successful tenure as president of AIA Delaware, Holloway was made a member of the chapter’s G. Morris Whiteside Society.

He was also voted into the membership of the Carpenters’ Company of the City and County of Philadelphia, a prestigious organization of builders, architects, and engineers originally chartered in 1724.

Holloway earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Penn State, where he was awarded the College of Arts & Architecture Medal for Creative Achievement and the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for leadership, service, and merit in architecture.

In the community and beyond, he serves as a longtime member of the Executive Board of the Del-Mar-Va Council, Boy Scouts of America; a member of the Easter Seals Society of Delaware and the Eastern Shore Board of Trustees; and a member of the executive committee of the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce.
