This Nearby Delco Town is the 6th Best Place to Retire in the U.S., Study Says

There’s a  Philadelphia suburb right here in Delaware County that’s already recognized as a great place to retire in Pennsylvania.

Now, SmartAsset has ranked Media Borough as the sixth-best place to retire in the United States, reports CBS3staff.

Media fell just after Farmington, MI in fifth-place and before Westlake Village, CA, which came in seventh.

First on Smartasset’s list is Cumming, GA.

SmartAsset used three regional  indicators that affect the quality of life for retirees—tax-friendliness, medical care and social opportunities.

SmartAsset looked at state, local, income and sales taxes, along with doctors’ offices, recreation centers, retirement centers, and the number of seniors as a percentage of the entire population.

Media has a tax burden of 15.5 percent. Nationwide, the tax burden is 15.8 percent.

The borough also has 19.3 doctor’s offices per 1,000 people. Nationwide, that number is .7 per 1,000.

Access to recreation centers is also good. Media offers 4, compared to the national average of .4.

It even as 1.3 retirement centers per 1,000 people. The nationwide total per 1,000 is zero.

Finally, in Media, 17.2 percent of the people are seniors. Nationally, that number is 18.8 percent.
