Four Montgomery County places are among the 50 safest cities in Pennsylvania for 2021, writes Rebecca Edwards for SafeWise.

To rank cities based on their safety, SafeWise used FBI crime statistics data along with demographic information and the results of its State of Safety research study.

Lower Salford Township ranked highest in Montgomery County at eighth place. The township catapulted up 39 places compared with last year.

Lower Salford recorded no violent crimes in 2021 compared with 0.5 per 1,000 people in 2020 and 3.2 property crimes per 1,000 people compared to 3.9 the previous year.

Next on the list is Collegeville in No. 15. The township has improved 65 places over last year despite its violent crimes rising from none in 2020 to 0.2 per 1,000 people this year. However, property crimes fell significantly from 7.2 to 3.5 per 1,000 people.

Upper Dublin Township follows at No. 25 with 0.3 violent crimes and 5.5 property crimes per 1,000 people.

The list is rounded out by Whitpain Township in No. 34. The town recorded 0.5 violent crimes and 6.8 property crimes per 1,000 people.
