Manor College to Host a Virtual Ukrainian Dialogue on Thursday, March 18

On Thursday, March 18 at 6:30pm, Manor College is hosting a virtual Ukrainian Dialogue.

The event, entitled 30 Years of Ukrainian Independence, Part I: Russian Invasion and Military Relationship with the U.S., is a special event discussing 30 Years of Ukrainian Independence, celebrate the anniversary of Ukrainian independence and hear from experts about this historic event.

It is free and open to the public.

Featured speakers include:

Dr. Phillip Karber, President, The Potomac Foundation; Professor, Georgetown University. Dr. Karber received his BA in political science from Pepperdine College, and PhD in international law from Georgetown University. At the request of the Ukrainian Government, between 2014-16 he conducted 25 visits to the combat zone spending 177 days with front-line units and interviewing commanders. He and GEN (ret) Wesley Clark presented the first report on Ukraine to a closed session of the Congressional Armed Services Committee in July 2014 and have been strong proponents of increased military assistance.

US General (Ret.) Wesley Clark

US General (Ret.) Wesley Clark, retired as a four-star general after 38 years in the United States Army, having served in his last assignments as Commander of US Southern Command and then as Commander of US European Command/Supreme Allied Commander, Europe.

He graduated first in his class at West Point and completed degrees in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University (B.A. and M.A.) as a Rhodes Scholar.

Major General Volodymyr Havrylov, Defense Attaché of Ukraine. Major Havrylov is the Defense Attaché of Ukraine in the United States. He started his military career in Air Defense units in 1981. In 1991 he joined the newly emerged Ukrainian Armed Forces and was selected to the first group of Ukrainian military attachés, and has since occupied tours in the United States, the United Kingdom and Romania. Prior to being appointed Defense Attaché in the United States in September 2015 he was the Commandant of the Military Diplomatic Academy in Kyiv. 

Ayla Bakkalli, Executive Member, World Congress of Crimean Tatars; Representative, United Nations Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues. Ms. Bakkalli is the Crimean Tatars Mejlis’ representative in the United States. She is a member of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars and an Adviser to the Permanent Mission of Ukraine for the United Nations on Indigenous Matters.

Ambassador Roman Popadiuk

Moderated by former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Roman Popadiuk. Ambassador Roman Popadiuk was the First Ambassador of the U.S. to Ukraine since Ukraine’s independence. 

Prior to ML, he was the Exec Dir of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation at Texas A&M.  Ambassador Popadiuk has a long and respected history of foreign policy and diplomacy service, including serving in Ronald Reagan’s and George Bush’s administrations.
