Albert Einstein once said that “the most powerful force in the universe is compound interest,” referring to it as one of the greatest “miracles” known to man.

If it’s not a secret that investing early and often is the best way to secure your financial future, then why aren’t more millennials taking the necessary steps to plan for tomorrow?

King of Prussia resident Andrew Scheppegrell, the Director of Marketing at Exton-based Brumbaugh Wealth Management and a Financial Planner whose specialty is the under-40 demographic, sees the problem as twofold.

“The Great Recession (of 2008) single-handedly affected my generation more than any other event of our lifetime,” said Scheppegrell, who graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2016 with a double major in Finance and Marketing. “So many of our parents lost their jobs, some lost their houses, and that shaped who we are as adults.”

Scheppegrell also sees a lot of reluctance to invest because of college debt.

“College expenses have never been higher,” he said. “And many people don’t want to save until their loans are paid off.”

Scheppegrell joined Brumbaugh Wealth Management in 2018 to drive millennial engagement and assist the firm in preparing for the next generation’s financial planning needs.

“Cultures change with every generation, and each has unique wants and needs that deserve careful attention and foresight,” said Kim Brumbaugh, the CEO of Brumbaugh Wealth Management. “Andrew is helping to diversify our client base and teaching them how to become good stewards of their money.”

Many millennials are interested in sustainable investing – evaluating investments based not only on their finances but also on their environmental, social, and even corporate governance practices (ESG). Scheppegrell helps clients with this type of investing, which allows them to further their own economic interests and a greater good.

“As a generation, millennials are more aware because information is easier to acquire,” said Scheppegrell. “Sustainable investing enables them to provide capital to companies that are making a positive impact on the world.”

Ultimately, Brumbaugh Wealth Management understands that career paths, interests, and life plans evolve differently for millennials than they did for their parents and grandparents.

“Our financial strategies are built to promote your independence,” said Brumbaugh. “They’ll give you confidence in your future, so you can pursue your career knowing that tomorrow is secured.”
