Accomplished equestrians Boyd and Silva Martin fell in love with the scenic, rolling hills of nearby Chester County’s horse country on their first visit and later started one of the nation’s most prestigious training facilities here, writes Michael Bradley for The Hunt magazine.

Boyd, an Olympian and native Australian, and Silva, who grew up in Germany, decided to move to the U.S. in 2007 to be able to compete against a broader base of riders.

They were welcomed by Phillip Dutton, a fellow equestrian who lived in West Grove. He provided them with a place to stay, employment, and the launching pad for their respective competitive endeavors.

The two felt at home in Chester County, and four years later, they purchased Windurra, an 80-acre farm in Cochranville.

“We purchased property here because it’s hunt country,” said Boyd.

Today, Windurra is a well-known name in equestrian circles. Its state-of-the-art facility houses and trains horses in dressage and eventing and caters to riders with a variety of skill levels.

The goal, said the Martins, is to turn it into “one of the best training facilities in the world.”
