Harcum College to Host Virtual Experience for Prospective Art, Design Majors on April 8

By

High school students, transfer students, and non-traditional students interested in learning more about Harcum College’s Art & Design majors are invited to join the college for an immersive Art & Design Experience on Thursday, April 8 at 6 PM.

This virtual event is hosted by the Admissions team, who will answer any questions about majoring in an Art & Design program at Harcum College.

Attendees can complete one of the following projects taught by Harcum’s talented Art & Design faculty. All essential/specialty materials will be provided in a kit that will be mailed to participants in advance of the event.

Fashion: Learn the traditional art Japanese art of Shibori using indigo dyes and intricate wrapping and tying techniques to make a 15” x 60” gauze scarf. The indigo-dyed look has been taking over the runways this season, from MSGM to Louis Vuitton to Stella McCartney.

Graphic Design: Create a unique and personalized cover for a sketchbook. You may choose from printmaking, collage, and stencil art techniques. Workshop includes demonstrations from the program director’s design and letterpress studio, highlighting typography and printing techniques.

Interior Design: Experience a guided painting practice that focuses on bringing positivity into your life. Through the process of layering, you will paint your way through the muck and create a personal mandala, a visual symbol that moves from left brain to right, logical to intuitive, and linear to creative.

Photography: Take part in a sun printing (cyanotype) workshop, which is a photographic process using sun, water, common objects, and your imagination, requiring special paper called sun paper, which is specially treated to be ready for printing.

Questions? Please e-mail the Admissions Office at enroll@harcum.edu. Workshop participation includes permission to have photograph(s) taken at the event for promotional purposes and use by Harcum College only. Click here to register. The deadline to register is March 16.
