Cases of COVID-19 continue to increase rapidly across the nation and state, with some areas in Montgomery County affected more than others, write Sean Adams and Megan Lavey-Heaton for the Penn Live Patriot-News.
The latest numbers compiled by the Pennsylvania Department of Health show that the rates of COVID-19 infection in each ZIP code statewide for the seven days ending December 9 compared to the infection rates for the seven days prior.
The highest percentage increase in Montgomery County over that period was recorded in ZIP code 19040 (Horsham/Hatboro.) Here the number of confirmed cases grew from 507 to 613, or 21 percent.
In ZIP Code 19446 (Lansdale/Montgomeryville) saw an increase of 20 percent. This meant that the number of confirmed cases rose from 1,505 to 1,811.
Meanwhile, ZIP code 19454 (North Wales/Montgomeryville) recorded a rise in the pandemic of 18 percent, with cases increasing from 577 to 678.
Finally, in ZIP code 19440 (Hatfield) the number of cases went up from 501 to 588, or 17 percent.
Statewide, the densely-populated Philadelphia ZIP codes continue to record the highest numbers of COVID-19 cases.
