Check Out Where Montgomery County Ranks Among the Nation’s Healthiest Communities
Montgomery County has once again found its place in the upper half of the 500 healthiest communities in the nation, according to a new ranking published by U.S. News & World Report.
The annual ranking measured close to 3,000 counties on 84 metrics across the ten categories that drive overall community health. The most heavily weighted categories were population health and equity.
Other categories include education, economy, housing, food and nutrition, environment, public safety, community vitality, and infrastructure.
Montgomery County made the top 150 at No. 141 with an overall population health score of 80.6 and equity score of 42.5. Still, the county dropped one place from last year when it ranked at No. 140.
The county, with its population of 799,874, has a life expectancy of 80.8 years, which is higher than the national average of 77.9 years, and a smoking rate of 13.4, which is lower than the national average of 17.3 percent.
There are 4.7 percent of people without health insurance, compared to the national average of 10.6 percent.
Neighboring Chester County and Bucks County also made the list, at No. 173 and No. 289, respectively.
