Most Jewish campus groups in the region are adjusting their programs for the pandemic while making sure to preserve some type of tangible connection among the students, writes Jesse Bernstein for the Jewish Exponent.

The Rohr Center for Jewish Life – Chabad House, which serves Jewish students at Haverford, Bryn Mawr, and Swarthmore colleges, has had to take into consideration the new health safety requirements to adapt its two signature programs for the current, COVID-19 shaped reality, according to Rabbi Eli Gurevitz, co-director of the Rohr Center for Jewish Life.

But these changes did not reduce interest in the center’s popular program that pairs students with Holocaust survivors from the area. In fact, the program has expanded both the number of participating students and the pool of Holocaust survivors.

And while a Birthright trip – which is usually a huge generator of enthusiasm – has been lost, overall attendance and interest in Israel programming have increased.

“Some good things come out of this craziness,” Gurevitz said.
